Socialised medicine
I am a firm believer in socialised medicine, like we have in France, Spain, Portugal and the NHS. In Ireland like in the US we have what is known as ‘money driven medicine’ dominated by Big Pharma, hence our cost per capita is the sixth highest in the OECD with little to show for it.
A&Es
The A&Es in Ireland are hugely over crowed because of the patchy GP service after 5pm and the embargo by the nurses’ union on direct admission to a hospital ward unlike when we had an integrated functioning health service some time ago under the Eastern Health Board and the other 7 health boards.
