About Ardmore

Ardmore draws its name from the Irish, Àird Mhòr, which translates from Irish to Great Height. Ardmore is thought to be the oldest Christian Settlement in Ireland and it is said to have been founded by Saint Declan who lived in this area of Waterford at some time during century 350AD-450AD.

The village includes two hotels, a number of pubs and restaurants, all can be found on the page http://johnaudielarkin.com/ardmore/businesses/

The village was the overall winner of the Tidy Towns in 1992, a wonderful achievement after 26 years of unstinting effort and dedication to our village.

Ardmore is a seaside resort with a mile-long beach, plus four others nearby beaches which are Goat Island, Ballyquin, the Curragh, and Whiting Bay.

The ever popular Cliff Walk, commences past the Cliff Hotel, through St Declan’s Holy Well, a ruined church, the wreck of the Samson, an abandoned 20th century coast guard lookout, and another, much older, lookout tower. Further along the walk is a well with stone canopy, known as Fr. O’Donnells Well.
